What Affects a Custom Knitwear Quotation?

A useful custom knitwear quotation starts with a shared understanding of what is being priced. A style name and a photograph rarely describe every material, construction and presentation decision. Make the scope visible before comparing offers or requesting a lower price.

Illustrated quotation inputs: yarn, construction, quantity and finishing

Start with a comparable specification

Send the current garment brief, reference views and measurement information. Identify the first sample size and any unresolved development choices.

Ask what assumptions the quotation uses when a detail has not been confirmed. A price based on a proposed construction should not be mistaken for an unconditional offer for every possible version of the design.

Review yarn, structure and construction

Discuss the proposed yarn, knitted structure, trims and assembly details together. Decorative panels, pockets or a particular opening may require a different scope from a plain basic garment.

If changing a detail to meet a target price, record the revised specification. The revised offer should describe the product you are prepared to approve, not quietly remove a feature from the original brief.

Make quantities and presentation visible

Break the quantity down by style, colour and size. Add label, packing and assortment requirements rather than treating them as details to resolve only after an order is placed.

Distinguish sample charges from bulk pricing. Ask which services and components are included and what remains subject to confirmation. Do not assume a sample quote also establishes the cost of a bulk order.

Compare like-for-like offers

Compare the same specification, quantities, packing scope, currency and stated delivery terms. Separate garment production from freight or other services where they are quoted separately.

If one offer differs materially, first ask which assumption explains the difference. A clear comparison gives both sides a more productive starting point than a price-only negotiation.

Before you send the brief

  • Current specification and open assumptions
  • Style-colour-size quantities
  • Labels, packing and included services
  • Comparable currency and delivery scope

Bring the details. Let’s review the next step.

Share your garment reference and highlight the decisions you want to discuss.
