Private Label Knitwear: An Artwork and Placement Handover Checklist

Private label development connects a garment with your brand presentation. A useful artwork handover identifies the files, dimensions, placement and attachment method before they are treated as production instructions. Keep branding decisions separate from any regulatory information that needs market-specific review.

Separate brand, size and care information

List each component: brand label, size tab, care or composition label, swing tag, barcode and packaging item where relevant. State what information belongs on each item.

The brand or responsible seller should confirm applicable destination-market information with appropriate advice. A generic label mockup is not a substitute for checking the actual wording and legal requirements.

Define artwork dimensions and placement

Supply the current artwork file and the intended finished dimensions. Show colours, orientation, front and back where applicable, and note whether a file is approved or still a proposal.

Use a garment diagram or photograph to mark placement. A location such as “inside neck” may still need a more precise instruction for a particular collar construction.

Check attachment on the sample

Specify the proposed attachment method and review it on a sample. Look at orientation, visibility, contact with the wearer and how the label sits against the knitted structure.

If the garment or label changes, revisit the relevant placement and attachment decision. An approval on an earlier construction may not describe the revised sample.

Keep packaging instructions with the order

Keep tag, bag and carton identifiers consistent with style, colour and size information. Identify any customer-supplied components and the information required before they can be used.

Make one approved artwork pack the current reference. Retire obsolete versions so an old logo file or size format is not accidentally reused during a later order.
